The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is a 3 ft narrow-gauge heritage railroad that operates on 45.2 miles of track between Durango and Silverton, in the U.S. state of Colorado. The railway is a federally-designated National Historic Landmark and offers a unique, affordable, family-friendly travel experience that combines Colorado’s colorful pioneering and mining histories with unparalleled backcountry beauty. The train travels through the remote, scenic wilderness and high mountain landscape of the San Juan National Forest, alongside the rushing waters of the Animas River and amid the towering peaks of the San Juan Mountains to beautiful Cascade Canyon or the historic mining town of Silverton. The D&S Roundhouse Museum, located in the railyard, houses a carefully curated collection of artifacts and exhibits that paint a picture of Colorado’s rich railroading and mining histories
