Cottonwood Lake is a 40-acre, man-made lake that serves as one of the water sources for the town of Buena Vista, Colorado. The lake offers excellent fishing opportunities for anglers, with a gravel boat ramp and accessible fishing docks. Non-motorized boats and canoes are allowed on the lake. The surrounding area features a campground with 24 campsites, as well as a picnic area with handicapped accessible facilities. The drive to the lake is scenic, especially in the fall when the aspen trees are turning golden. Visitors can also explore the nearby South Fork of Cottonwood Creek for stream fishing. To protect the endangered boreal toads in the area, anglers are asked to disinfect their waders and boots with a bleach and water solution
