The Flatirons Loop Trail is a scenic hike near Chautauqua Park, offering a short but moderate loop through open space and ponderosa forests at the base of Boulder's Flatirons. The trail is ideal for runners and a good alternative to more challenging trails in the Chautauqua area. For a more challenging hike, the First and Second Flatirons Loop is a 4.3-km loop trail that takes you to two of the most popular Flatirons in Boulder Open Space. The trail involves a lot of scrambling and can be very snowy and icy, especially near the top. The Flatirons are sandstone rock slabs that are an iconic part of Boulder’s scenery, and views from the top are excellent. The area is also popular for rock climbing, with the First and Third Flatirons offering some of the most popular multi-pitch rock climbing routes. There are also accessible trails in the area, with resources available for hikers using wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters
