Wawona is a census-designated place located in Yosemite National Park, California. It is situated in a large mid-elevation basin with Wawona Meadow as its centerpiece and is home to the historic Wawona Hotel, a classic Victorian resort. The area is surrounded by natural features, including the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, which is the largest sequoia grove in Yosemite and home to over 500 mature giant sequoias. Wawona is also close to Chilnualna Falls and serves as the main gateway to the southern Yosemite wilderness, with several principal trailheads located in the area. The town has a small population, but it increases dramatically during peak tourist seasons due to the large number of rental cabins available
