The lake is also known for its scenic qualities and is sometimes referred to as the 'Jewel of the High Country'. The area has a rich history, with the lake being named after Chief Tenaya, the last chief of the Yosemite Indians. The east end of the lake has designated accessible parking spaces, an accessible vault toilet, and an accessible path that leads to open views of the lake
