Half Dome is a quartz monzonite batholith located in Yosemite National Park, California. It is a well-known rock formation, named for its distinct shape, with one side being a sheer face and the other three sides being smooth and round. The dome stands at nearly 8,800 feet above sea level and offers breathtaking views of Yosemite Valley and the High Sierra. Hikers can ascend to the top of Half Dome via a 14- to 16-mile round-trip hike, which includes a challenging climb up a steep cable route. The hike is not recommended for those who are out of shape or unprepared, as it involves a significant elevation gain of 4,800 feet. However, the reward is worth the effort, with outstanding views of Vernal and Nevada Falls, Liberty Cap, and panoramic views of Yosemite Valley and the High Sierra
