Donner Memorial State Park is a state park of California, US, preserving the site of the Donner Camp, where members of the ill-fated Donner Party were trapped by weather during the winter of 1846–1847. The park contains the Emigrant Trail Museum and the Pioneer Monument dedicated to the travelers of the Emigrant Trail. The park has 2.5 miles of hiking trails, campgrounds, and 3 miles of lake frontage on Donner Lake, east of Donner Pass. The park offers summer camping, picnicking, kayaking, paddle sports, fishing, and hiking are available. The Visitor Center features exhibits that illuminate the Emigrant Experience, the Donner Party, the Land of the Washoe, Chinese construction of the railroad, and early motoring adventures over Donner Pass. The park also offers a junior ranger program for kids, where they can earn a badge by completing activities and learning about the challenges of crossing the Sierra in the 19th century
