What to expect

Hawk Hill is a 923-foot peak in the Marin Headlands, offering a prime vantage point for viewing thousands of hawks, eagles, falcons, and vultures during their annual fall migration. The hill provides a unique opportunity to witness the flight of these birds, with up to 19 different species visible from the site. In addition to its natural attractions, Hawk Hill is also home to a historic World War II military installation, Battery 129, and is an important habitat for the endangered mission blue butterfly. Visitors can enjoy the site's wide-screen vistas of the Pacific and the Golden Gate, and participate in the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory's hawk-watching activities. The site is suitable for families, with leashed dogs allowed, and visitors are advised to bring binoculars, field guides, and appropriate clothing for the weather
