Fern Canyon Trail

Hiking trail Mendocino, California, United States

What to expect

Fern Canyon is a hidden paradise located in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, featuring a narrow gorge carved out by Home Creek and lined with seven different types of ferns, some of which are ancient species with ancestry tracing back 325 million years. The canyon is home to various amphibians, including Pacific giant salamanders and northern red-legged frogs. The trail follows a series of small footbridges and takes visitors deep into the canyon, where they can see lush, drooping ferns, miniature waterfalls, and moss-covered surfaces. The canyon's unique landscape has even been featured in a scene from the movie Jurassic Park II
