What to expect

Castle Rock State Park is a land of sculpted sandstone, lush forests, and sweeping vistas. The park offers 34 miles of rugged trails, including the Castle Rock Trail Camp, which is open year-round on a first-come, first-serve basis. Visitors can enjoy hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, and rock climbing. The park is also home to a variety of plant species, including California black oaks, knobcone pines, and high-elevation coast redwoods. The park's trails connect to an extensive trail system that links the Santa Clara and San Lorenzo valleys to nearby Big Basin Redwoods State Park and open space preserves on the Skyline to the Sea Trail. Families can explore the park's natural and cultural features, including the unique sandstone formations and the Castle Rock Trail Camp. However, dogs are prohibited throughout the park, except for service animals
