What to expect
San Simeon State Park is a state park of California, preserving rocky coast and rare habitats. It is located between Cambria and San Simeon. The park includes the Santa Rosa Creek Natural Preserve, the San Simeon Natural Preserve, and the Pa-nu Cultural Preserve. A 3.3-mile trail runs through parts of the San Simeon Natural Preserve and the Washburn Campground, with scenic overlooks, rest-stop benches, and interpretive panels with information on wildlife and habitat. The park is also home to a large elephant seal rookery and is a wintering site for monarch butterfly populations

Activities: We visited the area near San Simeon and saw a large colony of elephant seals. There were hundreds of them! The kids loved watching them. "Several hundred elephant seals had made themselves comfortable on the coast near San Simeon in the sand."
Highlights: Watching the elephant seals. The kids were fascinated by these massive animals and loved seeing them in their natural habitat. We learned about them and took some pictures. "Around a bull, there are always several, significantly smaller females." ✨
