What to expect

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is a Roman Catholic chapel built into the red rock buttes of Sedona, Arizona. It was inspired and commissioned by local rancher and sculptor Marguerite Brunswig Staude and designed by August K. Strotz and Richard Hein of Anshen & Allen. The chapel features a 90 ft tall iron cross on the southwestern wall, which serves both aesthetic and structural purposes. The chapel's design is characterized by its use of reinforced coarse-aggregate concrete, sandblasted walls, and smokey-gray-colored glass. The chapel seats up to 150 people and has become a source of unity for the community. It was completed in 1956 and has received several awards, including the American Institute of Architects' Award of Honor in 1957 and was named one of the Seven Man-Made Wonders of Arizona in 2007
