The area is surrounded by towering Ponderosa Pine trees and offers opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and birding. The lake, which occasionally fills with water, has marsh areas that are great habitats for birds. The area is home to various species of wildlife, including the tassel-eared Kaibab squirrel, found nowhere else in the world.
