The park comprises staging areas for the trek to the gold fields in Yukon and the routes leading in its direction. The Skagway unit includes much of the historic downtown, with 15 restored buildings, including the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway Broadway Depot, which serves as the park's Visitors Center and Headquarters. The park also administers the Chilkoot Trail and a small portion of the White Pass Trail.
