Chilkoot Lake is a lake located in Haines Borough, Alaska, United States. The lake is about 3.6 miles long and 1 mile wide, with a maximum depth of 300 feet. It is surrounded by mountains and is glacial fed, with turquoise-colored water. The lake is a popular location for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing, with four salmon runs starting in mid-June and ending in mid-October. The area is also known for its bear viewing opportunities, with brown bears frequenting the river to feast on salmon. The Chilkoot Lake State Recreation Site is located at the south end of the lake and offers camping, picnic shelters, and a boat launch. The site is surrounded by Sitka spruce trees and is protected by towering mountains. The lake is accessible from the park area, which has a ramp for unloading gear and small watercraft
