Cadair Idris

Mountain Arthog, Wales, United Kingdom

What to expect

Cadair Idris, or Cader Idris, is a mountain with breathtaking landscape, rugged summits, glacial lakes, and a mossy wooded gorge. The mountain has three recommended routes to the summit, all of which are designated as 'hard/strenuous' and take around five to six hours to complete. The routes include steep and often slippery sections, with loose stone and shale surfaces, and gates and stiles. It's essential to wear good walking shoes, take suitable clothing, and carry water and food. The temperature at the top can be several degrees lower than at the base, and low cloud often covers the summit, making it damp and cold. The mountain is a popular day out for school parties, sponsored walks, and group challenges, especially as it is one of the Welsh Three Peaks
