What to expect

The York Dungeon is a tourist attraction that brings together an amazing cast of theatrical actors, special effects, stages, and scenes to tell the story of 2000 years of York's dark history. Visitors can walk through 10 live actor shows, enjoy specially designed sets, and experience gripping storytelling from the professional cast. The attraction features famous characters from York's dark past, including Vikings, Isabella Billington, and Guy Fawkes. The York Dungeon also offers a highly sensory experience with dark spaces, jump scares, loud noises, flashing/strobe lights, pungent smells, water sprays, air blasts, and surprises throughout the tour. Audience participation is a key element of the tours, with guests selected at random to become part of the experience. Children aged 5 to 8 are admitted with parent/guardian permission, while children aged 4 and under will not be admitted to the Dungeon. One carer can receive free entry per disabled guest, and there are some restrictions for visitors with mobility issues
