What to expect

Castle Howard is a stately home in North Yorkshire, England, 15 miles north of York. It has been the home of the Carlisle branch of the Howard family for more than 300 years. The house is surrounded by a large estate and 1,000 acres of parkland, featuring extensive woodland walks, temples, lakes, and fountains. The monumental landscape offers breathtaking views, taking in the countryside of the Howardian Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Castle Howard also features an adventure playground called Skelf Island, which offers a fun experience for young visitors with its treetop nest structures, rope bridges, slides, nets, and climbing equipment. Additionally, the estate is undergoing a landmark nature restoration and rewilding project, the Bog Hall Habitat Bank, which aims to transform 440 acres of low-yielding agricultural land into a thriving space for nature, with the goal of almost tripling biodiversity over the next 30 years
