It is one of the oldest libraries in Europe and the second-largest library in Britain after the British Library. The library has over 13 million printed items and is a legal deposit library, entitled to receive a free copy of all books printed in the United Kingdom. The library operates principally as a reference library, and documents may not be removed from the reading rooms. The Bodleian Library is part of the Bodleian Libraries, which includes several other libraries within the University of Oxford. The library's collections include books, journals, newspapers, magazines, sound and music recordings, maps, prints, drawings, and manuscripts. The library is known for its historic buildings, including the 15th-century Duke Humfrey's Library and the 17th-century Schools Quadrangle
