The North Walsham and Dilham Canal is a nearly nine-mile long waterway in Norfolk, England, and the county's only locked sailing canal. It was opened in 1826 and runs from Antingham to Wayford Bridge, passing through a peaceful and rural area. The canal has undergone restoration efforts and now offers scenic views, walking paths, and opportunities for canoeing, sailing, fishing, and birdwatching. Visitors can spot a range of flora and fauna, including kingfisher, grey wagtail, mute swan, deer, otter, and rare moths and dragonflies. The canal is also home to model boat sailings on Sunday mornings and work parties restoring the waterway. Families can enjoy a picnic or a hike in the nearby Pigney's Wood community woodland and the 22-mile Paston Way trail

Activities: We took a walk along the canal, which was about a 20 minute walk from home. We walked right down to the lock and the mill. We saw cows with their calves and the occasional deer
Highlights: Erin really loved the walk and asked loads of questions about the lock, the gates and the water. "It was so good to hear her being so excited about something new and to listen to all of the things she had thought about." ✨
