New Forest

National park Lymington, England, United Kingdom

What to expect

Lymington is a port town on the west bank of the Lymington River on the Solent, in the New Forest district of Hampshire, England. The town has a large tourist industry, based on proximity to the New Forest and its harbour. It is a major yachting centre with three marinas. The town began as an Anglo-Saxon village and is recorded in the Domesday Book as ‘Lentune’. Much of the architecture you see today in Lymington is Georgian and Victorian. The town is famous for its sailing history, and its High Street has several independent shops and designer boutiques, as well as a local market held each Saturday which dates back to the 13th century. Lymington is home to 19th century open sea water baths, the oldest of its kind in the UK, which are popular with all ages throughout the summer months. The town also offers a wide range of outdoor activities, including walking and sailing, and is surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the New Forest
