Horse Guards is a historic building in the City of Westminster, London, between Whitehall and Horse Guards Parade. It was built in the mid-18th century, replacing an earlier building, as a barracks and stables for the Household Cavalry. The building is guarded by two mounted cavalry troopers of The King's Life Guard and serves as the official entrance to St James's and Buckingham Palace. It also houses the Household Cavalry Museum, which offers a unique 'behind the scenes' look at the work that goes into the ceremonial and armoured reconnaissance role of HM The King's Mounted Bodyguard. The building is located near several other notable landmarks, including Dover House, the Cabinet and Privy Council Offices, and No. 10 Downing Street
