Hartland Quay

Hartland Quay is a hamlet located on the Atlantic coast of Devon, England. The quay is situated on a hill above a long shingle beach, which was used as a training ground by US Army forces in preparation for the D-Day landings in Normandy during World War II. A memorial column was erected to commemorate the over 800 soldiers who lost their lives at sea off Hartland Quay. The area is also home to Hartland Abbey, a Georgian manor house built on the foundations of a 12th-century Augustinian monastery. The nearby Hartland Quay Ley is a wetland nature reserve and a haven for birdwatchers.
