Dubai Creek is a natural saltwater creek and a vital waterway in the heart of the city, playing a significant role in Dubai's growth by handling the passage of more than 13,000 ships annually. The creek extends about 9 miles inwards and forms a natural port that has traditionally been used for trade and transport. The creek is approximately 200 to 1,200 metres in width and has an average depth of about 6.5 to 7 metres. Along the creek, there are notable government, business, and residential areas, as well as tourist locations and hotels. The creek has been dredged and developed to allow larger vessels to transit and to facilitate loading and unloading activities.
