Göreme

Town Nevsehir, Nevsehir, Turkey

What to expect

Göreme is a town in the Nevşehir District, Nevşehir Province in Central Anatolia, Turkey. It is well known for its fairy chimneys, eroded rock formations, many of which were hollowed out in the Middle Ages to create Christian churches, houses and underground cities. The town sits at the heart of a network of valleys filled with astonishing rock formations and is a centre of early Christianity, with the most painted churches, as well as hermitages and monasteries, in Cappadocia. Göreme is also home to a flourishing tourism industry, with hot air balloon rides and many boutique hotels created out of old cave homes. The village is located within the Göreme National Park, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985

Activities: We walked out of town SouthWest on Uzun Dere Cd and took a path through the woods toward Güvercinlik (Pigeon) Valley

Highlights: Turkish people love kids. Most of the sites are outside and so typical kid noisiness and running about is not a problem! ✨
