Çavuşin Plateau is a village in the Avanos District in Nevşehir Province in the Cappadocia region of Turkey. The village is home to two rock-cut churches, both named after St John the Baptist, which are worth seeking out. The first church is located beside the main road and features brightly colored frescoes of familiar Bible stories, as well as frescoed figures of soldiers in uniform. The second church is harder to find in the old part of the village but is particularly impressive, with carved decorations and a cross-shaped hole in the floor of the apse. The village also offers stunning panoramic views of Red Valley and Uchisar Castle. Visitors can hike a meandering path to the top of the village, where they can see the impressive geological formations created by the lava from various volcanic eruptions. The old town of Çavuşin is composed of a succession of houses and other structures carved into the distinctive volcanic tuff mounds, with a string of doors and windows that were intended to provide light and ventilation to the inside of the houses
