The Basilica of St. John is a historic basilica located in Selçuk, Izmir, Turkey. It was built in the 6th century by Emperor Justinian I over the supposed site of St. John's tomb. The basilica has a cross plan with six domes and was constructed using brick, stone, and marble. The tomb of St. John is located beneath the central dome. The basilica features impressive frescoes, mosaics, and marble decor, and its design is unique for its time. The site has been restored by American foundations and is a popular tourist destination. According to legend, St. John came to Ephesus with Mother Mary after the crucifixion of Jesus and lived there until his death. The basilica is also believed to be the site where St. John wrote the Gospel of John
