The Tünel is a historic, underground, rubber-tyred funicular line in Istanbul, Turkey. It has two stations, connecting Karaköy and Beyoğlu. The tunnel runs uphill from near the confluence of the Golden Horn with the Bosphorus and is about 573 metres long. It was inaugurated on 17 January 1875. The Tünel is the world's second oldest metro and has been carrying passengers between Karaköy and Beyoğlu for 144 years. Visitors can take a ride on the nostalgic tramway cars and explore the many cafes, restaurants, and shops that crowd the historic Tünel Pasajı and the narrow side streets. The area is also close to the Galata Tower and the Consulate-General of Sweden

Highlights: It was really fun to take the old metro. The article says: "An exploit of modernity for the time: barely two minutes to climb the steep hill through an underground tunnel..." ✨
