Ankara Castle is a historic fortification in the city of Ankara, Turkey, constructed in or after the 7th century. The castle has a rich history, with various civilizations contributing to its construction and renovation, including the Phrygians, Galatians, Romans, Byzantines, Seljuks, and Ottomans. The castle is composed of an inner and outer line of walls with closely spaced towers, enclosing an area of about 350 m by 150 m. The walls were constructed using large quantities of reused masonry. The castle features several notable structures, including the Finger Gate, also known as the Clock Gate, and the Şark Kulesi, or Eastern Tower, which offers a panoramic view of the city. The castle is surrounded by a historic neighborhood with traditional Ankara houses, mosques, and other cultural attractions.
