The palace was built in the 18th century and features a unique blend of Ottoman, Persian, and Armenian architectural styles. It has a complex structure with multiple sections, including a mosque, a library, a hamam, and a harem. The palace was damaged by an earthquake in 1840 and was later used as a military fort and administrative center. It was added to the UNESCO Tentative List of World Heritage Sites in 2000 and is considered one of the most important examples of Ottoman-period palaces in Turkey
