Carthage is an ancient city located on the north coast of Africa, now a residential suburb of the city of Tunis, Tunisia. It was founded by the Phoenicians in the 9th century B.C. and developed into a great trading empire covering much of the Mediterranean. The city was destroyed by the Romans in 146 B.C. and later rebuilt as Roman Carthage.
