Chott el Djerid is a large endorheic salt lake in southern Tunisia, also known as the 'Lagoon of the Land of Palms'. It is situated in the center-west of the country, between the cities of Tozeur and Kebili. The lake's surface area is approximately 7,000 km2, and its width varies widely, with a maximum length of 250 km and a maximum width of 20 km. The site has a typical hot desert climate, with very little rainfall and high temperatures during the summer. The lake is almost entirely dried up during the summer, and numerous fata morganas occur. Tozeur, a city located nearby, is known as the 'Pearl of the Desert' and has a rich history dating back to the Roman era. The city is home to several ancient sites, including the remains of an old church and a mosque. Visitors can explore the city's historic center, visit the Dar Cherait Museum, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the surrounding desert landscape. Chott el Djerid has also been used as a filming location for several movies, including the Star Wars series
