The Medina

Medina Sousse, Sousse, Tunisia

What to expect

The Medina of Sousse is a historic medina quarter in Sousse, Tunisia, and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1988. It is a typical example of the architecture of the early centuries of Islam in Maghreb, with a Kasbah, fortifications, and the Great Mosque of Sousse. The medina is surrounded by well-preserved ramparts and features narrow alleys and traditional quarters, providing a valuable example of Arabo-Muslim urbanism adapted to a coastal city. The Ribat of Sousse, both a fortress and a place of worship, is one of the oldest and best-preserved of its kind, blending military and religious functions

This family's experience:

Activities: We ventured out to the Medina which continued back down the hill from the museum

Highlights: Like I previously mentioned, it was a fusion of the Mediterranean and North Africa. White washed walls, crumbling paint, bright blue doors and cobbled alleyways meandered from the top of the hill right to the seafront ✨
