Ayutthaya Historical Park is a historic site located in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, Thailand. The park covers the ruins of the old city of Ayutthaya, which was founded in 1350 and was the second Siamese capital after Sukhothai. The city was destroyed by the Burmese in the 18th century, but its remains give an idea of its past splendor. The park features numerous historical sites, including the island area with three surrounding rivers, as well as ancient palaces, religious places, bridges, and trade centers. The park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991 and is currently maintained by the Fine Arts Department of Thailand. The site is characterized by the remains of tall prang (reliquary towers) and Buddhist monasteries of monumental proportions, which showcase the city's past size and architectural splendor
