Mae Salong, also known as Doi Mae Salong or Santikhiri, is a village in Chiang Rai Province, Northern Thailand. The village has a rich history, having been a base for the 93rd Division of the Chinese Nationalist Army and later a major producer of opium. However, in the 1970s, the Thai government struck a deal with the renegades, and they ceased opium production in favor of cultivating mushrooms and oolong tea, which is now the main product of the area. The village is situated in a scenic area with a crisp climate, and its hills are alive with white plum blossoms and pinkish sakura cherry blossoms during the peak tourist season from December to February. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery, try the local Yunnanese dishes, and explore the small hotels and guesthouses. The area is also home to various nationalities, including Chinese, Thai Yai, Akha, Lahu, Mien, Lishu, and Lawa, making it a culturally diverse and interesting place to visit
