Shifen

Old village New Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taiwan

What to expect

Shifen is a scenic area located in New Taipei City, Taiwan. The area is known for its beautiful Shifen Waterfall, which is the broadest waterfall in Taiwan with a total height of 20 meters and 40 meters in width. The waterfall is surrounded by a mountainous area with 'kettle pits' (potholes) in the river beds, formed by the erosion of soft rocks by pebbles grinding against them. Shifen Old Street is another popular attraction in the area, filled with sky lantern and souvenir shops, grocery stores, and restaurants on both sides of the railway. The street has a nostalgic and relaxing atmosphere, making it a great place for photographs and sampling local snacks. The area is also home to the famous Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival, which is one of the three most popular customs of lantern festival in Taiwan and has been recognized globally as a key international folklore event
