The Vignobles en terrasses de Lavaux is a region in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland, known for its 830 hectares of terraced vineyards that stretch for about 30 km along the south-facing northern shores of Lake Geneva. The region benefits from a temperate climate and a Mediterranean character due to the southern aspect of the terraces and the reflection of the sun in the lake. The main wine grape variety grown here is the Chasselas. The vineyards are protected from development under cantonal law, and since 2007, Lavaux is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can explore the vineyards on foot or by bicycle, and there are many hikes possible through the vineyards, including a 32km path from Lausanne-Ouchy to Chillon Castle. The region is also home to many wine cellars and offers wine tastings and tours
