The Bernina railway line is a single-track metre gauge railway line that forms part of the Rhaetian Railway. It links the spa resort of St. Moritz, in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland, with the town of Tirano, in the Province of Sondrio, Italy, via the Bernina Pass. The line is the highest railway crossing in Europe and the third-highest railway in Switzerland, with an elevation difference of 1,824 m between the Bernina Pass and Tirano. The Bernina Express is a train that operates on this line, offering a unique journey through 55 tunnels and over 196 bridges, with modern panoramic cars providing first-class travel comfort. The train passes through wildly romantic gorges, past spectacular man-made structures such as the Landwasser Viaduct, and offers breathtaking views of glaciers and the surrounding landscape
