What to expect

Fribourg, also known as Freiburg, is the capital of the Swiss canton of Fribourg and district of La Sarine. The city is located on both sides of the river Saane/Sarine, on the Swiss Plateau, and is a major economic, administrative, and educational center on the cultural border between German-speaking and French-speaking Switzerland. Its Old City, one of the best-maintained in Switzerland, sits on a small rocky hill above the valley of the Sarine. The city has a rich history, with medieval districts, many bridges, and a well-preserved old town. Visitors can explore the historic districts of Burg, Au, and Neustadt, and enjoy the city's many cultural attractions, including the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas, the Franciscan church, and the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire. The city is also known for its gastronomy, with local specialties such as Cuchaule AOP, meringues with double cream, and 'moitié-moitié' fondue. Fribourg is a great destination for families, with its many parks, lakes, and outdoor activities, as well as its dynamic cultural life and high-quality educational institutions
