Lysekil Church

Church Lysekil, Vastra Gotaland County, Sweden

What to expect

Lysekil Church, located in Lysekil, Sweden, is a notable landmark in the city. The church, built entirely in granite, was completed in 1901 and is the largest church in Bohuslän. It features a unique design and has been called a 'psalm in stone' and a 'speaking picture of the spiritual sanctuary of God'. The church has undergone changes over the years, including the shortening of its tower after it blew down in 1914. The church offers stunning views of the surrounding area and is a popular spot for concerts during the summer. Visitors can also explore the nearby lookout tower, which provides a great view of the city and the sea. Lysekil itself is a charming coastal city with a rich history, having developed from a small fishing village to a prominent spa and bathing resort during the 18th and 19th centuries

This family's experience:

Activities: We visited Lysekil Church. I lit a candle for my parents. It's becoming a tradition for me, to find extra nice church buildings where I light candles and get a moment of reflection

Highlights: I enjoyed the church and the moment of reflection. I am so glad that Tobias managed to introduce Bohuslän to my parents before it was too late – my memories from those days are invaluable ✨
