Kärnan is a medieval tower in Helsingborg, Scania, in southern Sweden. It is the only part remaining of a larger Danish fortress which controlled the entranceway between the Kattegat and the Øresund and further south the Baltic Sea. The tower offers a wonderful view over Helsingborg and the Öresund. Visitors can climb to the top of the tower, but be prepared for a steep wooden staircase. The tower has a long history dating back to the 14th century and has played a significant role in Swedish-Danish relations over the centuries. Today, it is a popular tourist destination and a symbol of Helsingborg
