Lake Tåkern is a shallow lake in Östergötland County, Sweden, considered one of northern Europe's foremost bird lakes. It is 12 km long and 8 km wide, with an average depth of only 0.8 meters. The lake is surrounded by impressive reedbeds, wet meadows, and marshy shore woods, making it a haven for birdlife. With over 270 species of birds, including 120 breeding species, it's an ideal spot for birdwatching. The best times to visit are during the breeding season in May and June or during the migration season in September and October. There are four visiting areas with lookout towers, hides, and boardwalks, allowing visitors to observe the birds in their natural habitat. Activities: We went to Lake Tåkern, Nordeuropas största vassområde. After watching the birds, we visited a nature center, a nice nature play area and a fun fairytale path, named after Princess Estelle. The fairytale path is probably best suited for children up to 5-6 years old
