Visingsö is an island in the southern half of Lake Vättern in Sweden. The island is 14 kilometers long and 3 kilometers wide, with a total area of 24 square kilometers. According to legend, Visingsö was created when the giant Vist tossed a tuft of grass into Lake Vättern for his wife to step on. The island has a rich history, with Näs Castle on the southern end being the residence for the Swedish monarchy in the 12th and 13th centuries. Today, the island offers many experiences, such as taking a ride on the famous horse and carriage, exploring the magnificent ruins, and feeling the tranquility in the unique oak forest. Visitors can also walk or cycle through the wonderful nature, stopping at farm shops, swimming spots, and unique churches. The island is home to Sweden's straightest oak forest, which was planted by the Swedish Navy in the 19th century to provide timber for ship construction
