Raukar

Rock formation Fårö, Gotland County, Sweden

What to expect

Raukar is a nature reserve located on the island of Fårö in Gotland County, Sweden. The reserve features a unique landscape of limestone sea stacks, known as 'raukar', that have been sculpted by wind and waves over thousands of years. The rauks can reach heights of eight to ten meters and are concentrated along a long pebble beach at the northern tip of the peninsula. The area is also home to a variety of flora and fauna, including rare species such as the Apollo butterfly and the Natrix natrix gotlandica, a subspecies of grass snake found exclusively on Gotland. Visitors can explore the nature reserve and enjoy the beautiful scenery, and nearby attractions include the Bergman Center, Fårö Museum, and Sudersand beach

Gotland with children: tips for a family holiday!
This family's experience:

Activities: We checked out the raukar, the characteristic rock formations. We saw some popular ones at Langhammar on Fårö, and the Jungfrun near Lickershamn. We also visited Hoburgsgubben on southern Gotland

Highlights: The raukar were a must-see. "A must (!) on Gotland is to check out one of all the raukar, the characteristic rock blocks are scattered all over the island." ✨
