The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is a captive breeding and conservation institute for wild Asian elephants. It was established in 1975 to care and protect orphaned unweaned wild elephants found wandering in and near the forests of Sri Lanka. The orphanage has the largest herd of captive elephants in the world, with over 70 elephants, including males and females from three generations. Visitors can observe and interact with the elephants, and the orphanage offers a unique opportunity to see these magnificent creatures up close. The elephants are fed and bathed daily, and visitors can watch them roam freely in their enclosure. The orphanage also has a breeding program, which has been successful in producing new elephant calves. The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is a popular tourist attraction and a great place to visit for families and animal lovers
