Adam's Peak, also known as Sri Pada, is a 2,243m-tall conical sacred mountain located in central Sri Lanka. It is well known for the Sri Pada, a 1.8m rock formation near the summit, which is believed to be the footprint of the Buddha, Hanuman, Shiva, Adam, or St Thomas the Apostle, depending on the religious tradition. The mountain is a famous pilgrimage site for Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, and Christians, and is considered a watershed for Sri Lanka's four main rivers. The surrounding region is largely forested hills, with no mountain of comparable size nearby, and is home to many species of wildlife, including elephants and leopards. The mountain is also known for its precious stones, including emeralds, rubies, and sapphires
