The Sacred Bo Tree, also known as the Sri Maha Bodhi Tree, is a sacred place of pilgrimage in Sri Lanka. It is believed to be a tree grown from a cutting of the southern branch from the historical sacred bo tree, Sri Maha Bodhi, under which Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha) attained enlightenment. The tree is over 2,300 years old and is considered the oldest living human-planted tree in the world with a known planting date. The site is surrounded by walls and is quite busy with monks and worshipers. Visitors can approach the tree, but access to the uppermost terrace is restricted. The tree has been protected by successive kings and is a significant Buddhist site, with many vows and offerings made by Buddhists at its foot. The site hosts numerous acts of worship throughout the year, and it is a great place to visit for those interested in history, culture, and spirituality
