The Kuttam Pokuna, also known as the Twin Ponds, is a pair of ancient pools located in the Sacred City of Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka. The ponds are a unique creation of ancient architecture and are considered an example of significant achievements in hydrological engineering in ancient Sri Lanka. The ponds are believed to have been built during the reign of King Aggabodhi I (575-608) and were likely used by monks from nearby residences. The ponds are connected by an underground pipeline and feature intricate stone carvings, including punkalas (pots of abundance) and sculptures of nagas (cobras) and makaras (mythical creatures). The site has undergone restoration work, including a major restoration project in the 1950s led by Dr. Senarath Paranavithana. The Kuttam Pokuna is now a well-conserved tourist attraction and a testament to the advanced engineering and architectural skills of the ancient Sinhalese
