Minneriya National Park is a national park located in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. The park is known for its large herds of elephants, with up to 300 specimens, and is a dry season feeding ground for the elephant population dwelling in forests of Matale, Polonnaruwa, and Trincomalee districts. The park is also home to other animals such as buffaloes, deer, macaques, crocodiles, and pythons, as well as a variety of bird species, including hornbills, herons, storks, cormorants, and parrots. The park's vegetation consists of tropical dry mixed evergreen forests, abandoned chaparral lands, grasslands, and wetlands. The park is an important habitat for Sri Lanka's two endemic monkeys, the purple-faced langur and the toque macaque, and is also home to rare and endangered species such as the Sri Lankan leopard and Sri Lankan sloth bear.
