Nuwara Eliya was a hill station used by the British residents of what was then Ceylon, and many of the buildings retain features from the colonial period. The city has a subtropical highland climate, with no pronounced dry season, and a mean annual temperature of 16 °C. It is a popular destination for those looking to experience the natural beauty of Sri Lanka's hill country
